Vintage Billiard Cue Restoration Services Available

My goal is to return your vintage cue looking very nearly like it did when it came from Brunswick's Muskegon cue factory.

If you have a vintage billiard cue that you would like me to evaluate for restoration do Contact Me. Send me an email with pictures of your vintage billiard cue. Do indicate if you would like me to respond by email or if you wish, give me your phone number. I will be happy to call you. Information regarding Terms of Cue Restoration Services is shown at the bottom of this page. Note: I do not work on modern cues (later than Willie Hoppes). There are many very talented cue makers who can fix your modern cue.

Whatever your need to restore your vintage cue, I can help you. Following are many of the vintage billiard cue restoration services available:

General Cleaning, Minor Dent Removal, and Lacquer Finish:

This is a very important part of the restoration process. If a vintage cue is not cleaned and resealed with lacquer there is a near certainty that the cue will warp at some point. A refinished vintage cue, properly stored, is far less likely to warp.

Ivory Ferrule Replacement:

The vast majority of the high end, vintage cues were ordered with an ivory ferrule (cue point). Other cues were produced with a hard fiber cue point but an ivory ferrule could be ordered as an up-charge. If you are having your cue restored, I would highly recommend an ivory ferrule for its beauty. I have been to Africa to see the elephants and have a vested interest in insuring the preservation of these great, kind animals. All ivory used on my vintage cue restoration projects is pre banned ivory. You can learn more about pre banned ivory at IvoryBuyer.com.

Cue Tips:

Having a desire to be period correct, all of my leather cue tips are vintage leather tips that I purchase when they come on the auction market. I will install a modern leather tip for an up charge. I would not recommend the modern leather tip if you are not going to use the cue for tournament play. A modern tip would not be period correct for a vintage cue in your cue rack. Your cue will come back to you already chalked. Note the consistent look of my restored vintage cue tips.

Ivory Joint Rings:

Replacing cracked or missing joint rings adds to the beauty of a vintage cue restoration project.

Silk Wrap:

A silk wrap gives a vintage cue restoration project a very upscale look. All of the silk twine that I use for vintage cue restorations is correct period material. I do not use off the shelf silk for my wraps unless the owner requests new silk.

Linen (twine) Wrap:

I seek out vintage period linen to use as wrap material for vintage cue grips that I apply. I have developed an aging process so the linen will have an aged appearance as it would have if it had been in your rack for 100 years.

Leather Wraps:

This is one of my favorite wraps. The leather height will flush with the wood at each end and the leather will have a seam on the back side that is straight and nearly unnoticeable. The wraps are quite beautiful on the Willie Hoppe cues that I restore.

Ivory, Fiber and Rosewood Butt Caps:

Replacing butt caps adds beauty and value to your vintage cue. This is one way to remove chips in the butt of a cue and extend the length back to 56 or 57 inches.

Multi-Colored Veneer Butt Caps:

Replacing veneer butt caps is a specialty of mine. See the "Before" and "After" section of this web site for several examples.

Mother of Pearl and Ivory Name Plate Replacement:

There is nothing more attractive than a new, polished name plate to replace the cracked or missing plate on your cue.

Inlay replacements:

If an ivory or mother of pearl inlay is missing the cue is of lessor value. I can fix your cue for you.

Cue Point Restorations:

Restoration of billiard cue points can be done with some success. Severely raised veneer points like those shown in the "Before and After" pictures to the right are possible but one may still see some distortion in the points even though it is down flush. Nevertheless, restoring the points still beats throwing the cue in the trash.

Correct Cue Decal Application:

In another section of this site (Cue Decal Recreations) I discuss the recreation of digitally scanned and produced varnish/fix decals shown in the first picture to the left. The water slide decals for the Willie Hoppe cues shown in the second picture are also discussed. I do not sell the varnish/ fix decals as they are difficult to apply. However these varnish/fix decals are the only correct decals being used for vintage cue restorations. When applied to your cue, these decals have the same appearance has one applied to the cue 100 years ago. The red eagle is produced with both a bright gold look to the eagle and a slightly greenish look which gives the cue decal the aged look often seen on these cues. That is the attention to detail that you find on my cue restorations that you will not find elsewhere. I also have the correct green and orange eagle decal (not shown) like the gold and orange one shown in the far right cue in the first picture. The Willie Hoppe decals are very correct. These Willie Hoppe decals have been given slightly different shades of blue like the aged partial decal that you may have on your Hoppe cue. Again, attention to detail not found elsewhere.
